New furniture!

It's been way too long since I last blogged, but I've been so busy! A part of november and december only revolved around Christmas preparations! Putting up Christmas decorations, buying and wrapping presents, party preparations, etc (but I'm a Christmas-aholic, so I don't mind!).

But now, when everything's back in their boxes and 'normal' life has begun again, I always feel that the house looks empty. So we've actually started a sort of tradition to buy a new piece of furniture to keep our minds of the emptiness. We don't actually plan it, but it just seems to work out that way every year.

This year we bought a new couch and chair!

I wasn't looking for a new couch, but when I found this one online I just couldn't resist! It's not only gorgeous, but it sits really comfortable! Much better than our old, modern couch. And I just love the details!

And this is our new chair! We found it a flee market. Although it's a little brighter than the couch and has a gorgeous floral print, it goes great with the couch!

So, what do you guys think? Do you have any special ways of coping with the 'januari sadness'? Do you change your furniture or start a new project? Tell me!

Treasure find!

Two weeks ago I went on my weekly tour through one of our local second hand shops, when I spotted this beauty in the corner! Since I'm a sucker for fifties furniture and roses, I knew it would come home with me.

Apparently it had been collecting dust at the previous owners for years, but after a good cleaning it turned out to be in even better condition than I'd expected it to be!
I keep it next to the sofa with my sofa and use it to store my cross stitch equiment. It's become a real eyecatcher in our living room!

After some research the best name I could find for it is a 'sewing basket box'. If you have any idea how it's called in either English or Dutch, please share it with me!

It's me!

So, this is me! Time to share the first picture of me on my blog! (except for the tiny little profile pic that's been made a century ago) (not that I've changed that much, but still)!

And a little bit sort-of outfit picture! I wore this dress last wednesday to our rock 'n roll dance lessons. It's the Brigit black and white dress from 'Bettie Page Clothing'. The earrings I found in a budget store in Germany.

Halloween decorations

This year I wanted to decorate the house a bit for halloween. Nothing too fancy or big, but a nice little touch for a spooky holiday (which we unfortunately don't celebrate in the Netherlands).

(Click pictures for more details.)

Both the ghosts and the witches legs were handmade by my boyfriend and me.

How do your halloween decorations look? And are you celebrating halloween? I'm curious, so tell me!

Cross stitched cupcakes

As promised, my first blog about crafts! Cross stitched cupcakes with a topping of delicious sewing pins ;).

(Click pictures for more details)

This is actually my very first cross stitch project since I was eight or so. I got the idea at the Craft Fair in Roermond (NL) and loved them immediatly! I thought that they were a fantastic project to start cross stitching with, because of their small size and my inability to finish projects.

But after finishing one I got completely hooked and and now I've already made three. I'd like to make all kinds of different cupcakes in the future, because they're so versatile and make cute presents!

The cross stitching took me about eight hours to finish and the cupcake itself took me about an hour to make.

What do you think of them? Your comments are really appreciated!

Autumn wreath

And the first week of October is almost over already. Before we know it it's Christmas again! And secretly I can't wait, but until then I'm enjoying my autumn decorations.

This wreath I bought from a second hand shop and fixed it up a little. Some pine cones where missing, so we found some, painted them red and glued them one. Also we made a new ribbon, because the old one was ugly and loose.

It's hanging from our front door and I absolutely love it! It gives coming home that extra homely feeling!

My furry white friends

Happy World Animal Day everyone!

And in honor of this special day, I wanted to share some pictures of my furry white friends!

The one on the left is our English Staffordshire named Sjef (pronounced "Chef")  and the one on the left is Lyca, our white Shepherd.

They came in the package with my boyfriend, but I can't living life without them anymore. They've become my best friends. ♥

Pictures of more Christmas decorations and crafts are coming soon!
